Camping can be a year round activity, but it definitely picks up when the weather is warmer.  Naturally camping can be done in all terrains and in all kinds of weather without the need of 24 hour towing services but the ticket to a successful outdoor stay, no matter what the season is the equipment.

No one wants gear that takes a tow truck to lug in and out of the back country.  It has to be lightweight, easy to use and reliable. This is where 3D Printers can help create functional, very light and portable camping equipment that can be customized to suit every campers needs. Some modern tents are now even using plastic 3d printed parts in their construction.

When it came time to replace my tent I started with on-line research.  However, no matter what a website says, the best recommendations come from friends and fellow campers.   My neighbor, Lisa is an avid camper who camps about 8 months out of the year.  Her priority is to be out in nature whenever her schedule permits.  As a seasoned outdoors person she has stream lined the experience to a point of complete efficiency.   She loves being in Nature, but also loves her conveniences.  I could think of no one better to ask about tents.

As it happened after returning from a long hike myself yesterday morning, I saw Lisa setting up a tent in her front yard.  Her Mom was with her and as I walked up to them I heard her say; “and it’s as easy as that.”  She just purchased a brand new LightSpeed three season tent.  Setting it up was  like opening an umbrella – that fast and easy.  I asked Lisa if I could give it a try.  She took it down in a blink of an eye and I went at it.  It took less than 3 minutes before I standing inside marveling at the ease of use.

I wanted something that was roomy, durable, quick to assemble, lightweight and affordable.  The model Lisa introduced me to was the Stowe 4 Person Tent by LightSpeedOutdoors.com.  It weighs only 10 pounds making it very reasonable for backpacking into off-the-beaten path locations.  The poly-oxford bath-tub floor base is just under 59ft2.  The total dimensions are 108″ length x 84″ wide and 57″ on it’s peak height.

There is plenty of vestibule room for taking off shoes and allowing storage of other items.  This extra space is a must if you appreciate a clean sleeping environment.  It’s a place to keep things dry, accessible and safe.  There are no poles to thread as the durable plastic poles are already assembled within the outer shell and snap out into their full length as you push up the hub center.  It operates very much like an umbrella.  Once out a simple push on the joint and they lock into place.  With 3 windows and a peak air vent it was light and well ventilated.

It’s affordability gets a high score, too.  Coming in at only $139.00 US it doesn’t break the budget.
